Diffusing your essential oils has never been easier than using diffusing jewelry. This guide to choosing essential oil diffusing jewelry is here to help you figure out what jewelry fits your lifestyle the best, so you can take your oils and the benefits of aromatherapy with you anywhere you go, without having to worry about photosensitivity.
Benefits of wearing diffusing jewelry
Dripping essential oils onto jewelry as a fashionable way to diffuse your oils without needing to be near an ultrasonic diffuser, and is a great way to avoid direct contact with photosensitive oils. Plus, the most wonderful thing about wearing your oils in jewelry is that your oils may last longer as you'll need fewer drops than diffusers that plug in.
Of course, different essential oils have different benefits in relation to your mental, physical, and spiritual wellness. Wearing your oils in your diffusing jewelry has the same benefits on your limbic system as diffusing them in a regular ultrasonic or nebulizing diffuser.
Wearing your essential oils in jewelry is one of the best ways and easiest ways to help your body naturally regulate its every day functioning, increase your energy and focus, maximize your productivity, and navigate embracing a positive mood.
The biggest benefit… you may end up saving money, especially when wearing your jewelry while spending time in a large space. A drop of essential oil (or 4) is all you'll need to last you a few days. Vice diffusing in larger spaces where 8-10 drops will only last an afternoon.
Types of essential oil jewelry
Diffuser jewelry comes in all different shapes and sizes, and modalities for holding your favorite essential oils to enjoy throughout the day.
Essential oil diffuser jewelry can be worn as bracelets, pins, necklaces, earrings, and hair accessories.
Aromatherapy jewelry usually involves a porous stone, like lava rock, clay beads or pendants, or a leather or felt pad to hold your essential oils in.
And the come in different shapes and sizes:
- Lava stone diffuser necklace
- Diffusing locket necklace pendant with a colored felt or leather diffuser pad
- Aromatherapy bracelets featuring lava stones (or other porous stone)
- Essential oil diffuser bracelet featuring a locket that uses felt or leather pads
- Essential oil diffuser earrings, using lava stones
There really is no right or wrong with which kind of necklace, bracelet, or earrings to choose for wearing your oils.
Essential oil bracelets are great for people who enjoy wearing bracelets and don't want the aroma closer to their faces. This would be a great choice for you if you're new to using essential oils and want to limit the amount you inhale throughout the day. Remember… when using essential oils, “less is more.”
Wearing a locket on a necklace chain helps you gain the aromatic benefits of the oils more often, and is better suited for you if you're used to using essential oils throughout the day. I also love how there are many more different types of diffuser necklaces that offer a larger variety of styles.
DIY Diffusing Jewelry for Essential Oils
There are several different ways to make your own diffusing jewelry using a few different materials, such as clay, lava, wood, or felt.
You can make your own easy DIY clay diffuser using earthenware clay or air dry clay. Shape it into how you want it to look, adding your artistic touch with designing it into pendants or beads (I love using stamps for this because I'm not very artistic with clay tools or drawing). Then set it to dry. If you're using earthenware, you'll need to bake it in a kiln. If you're using air-dry, set it aside where it can rest for 24 hours until hard.
Just remember, if you're using clay, do not forget to add in the hole(s) you need for stringing it onto your necklace or bracelet.
You may also string together a series of lava, stone, and/or wooden beads to make your own wood or lava bead bracelet.
If you're not crafty and don't want to use clay, find a locket with holes in it, and add cut felt or leather to place inside it to hold your oils. Or you can piece together other interchangeable options, such as those offered by Magnetude Jewelry, where you can find several different locket options that use magnets to secure into bracelet or necklace bases.
How to use your diffuser jewelry
Adding essential oils to your jewelry is the easiest way to diffuse your oils. Simply add 1-4 drops of your favorite essential oil or essential oil blends onto a felt or leather pad, or porous stone.
You should be using undiluted essential oils in your jewelry… no need for diluting your essential oils with carrier oils since they won't be touching your skin. If you're using lava beads, drip your favorite oils on the beads before wearing them.
** PLEASE NOTE ** Don't be fooled by clever marketing. Not all essential oils are created equally. Make sure you're not wasting your money on fake or altered essential oils (even if they're labeled as “pure essential oil”). Don't miss our explosive report outlining the dirty little secrets of the essential oil industry to ensure you're not wasting your money on brands of oils that legally mislead you through deceitful marketing practices.
My favorite scents to add to my essential oil necklace include a drop each of lemon, lavender, and peppermint (sometimes adding a drop of goldenrod too). I also love using a few drops of the Harmony essential oil blend by Young Living.
Converting Diffuser Recipes to Work For Your Diffusing Jewelry
I don't recommend using more than 5 drops in a diffuser necklace or bracelet. Why? Because the materials usually don't have the absorption capacity to hold in that much oil. It usually isn't a good idea to use oils neat (undiluted) on your skin, and when you add too much oil to diffusing jewelry, you will end up with some spilling onto your skin.
To use your diffusing jewelry with normal diffuser recipes, reduce the amounts to be less than 5 drops total, or increase the amounts to equal a total of up to 85, and use it to create your own 5ml bottle of the blend. Then drip 3-4 drops of that blend onto your diffusing material (felt pad, clay pendant, lava bead… etc).
My personal preference for wearing diffusing jewelry
Having used every type of diffusing jewelry option over the 10+ years , I personally prefer using an essential oil diffuser necklace locket with a felt pad. Adding a few drops of essential oils on the felt pad tends to last 3-4 days before needing to reapply. And having the oils in a necklace keeps them close enough to my face to have easy access to the aroma with the least amount of effort. Using lava beads in your essential oil jewelry doesn't seem to hold the aroma of the oils as long (usually 1-2 days vice 3-4), so using a felt pad means using less oils and saving more money.
The diffusing jewelry I highly recommend
My absolute favorite kind of aromatherapy diffuser necklace comes from Magnetude Jewelry. I cannot get enough of wearing essential oil magnetic jewelry. They offer surgical stainless steel necklace pendants and bracelets that are backed with Neodymiummagnets and a few stones that are perfect for helping with EMF exposure (and even help repel mosquitos too). I absolutely love wearing these because the bases keep the diffuser attachments on through magnets, so everything is interchangeable and customizable.
Since wearing Magnetude's magnetic diffusing jewelry, I've noticed less mosquitos want to be anywhere near me, which is perfect because in the long southern summers, I grow very tired of always smelling like citronella mixtures and frequently reapplying oily bug sprays. Using these necklaces, I have beautiful diffuser jewelry using the felt pads I love, with being able to use the oils my body actually needs to maximize my own personal wellness. Plus, they're affordable. Simply choose a base (necklace, bracelet, pin, or earrings), and add a diffusing “Tude” (aromatherapy pendant) to magnetically attach to it. Each diffusing Tude comes with 5 different color felt pads. I really do see these as becoming a standard in diffusing jewelry in the near future.
These Magnetude Jewelry bracelets and necklaces make excellent gifts for those you care for in your life who love essential oils, whether they're new to the oily lifestyle or experienced. It is the simple way to maximizing essential oil fashion, being able to swap the “Tudes” between different bases to create a variety of fun and fully customized aromatherapy necklace diffuser pendants and bracelets.
